2016 Life Member Event

UHAA Life Members and guests heard from Dr. Gaye Chan, UH alumna and chair of the Department of Art & Art History. In this exclusive talk, Dr. Chan highlighted works by UH Mānoa artists that explore the theme of Hawai‘i which go beyond stereotypical images of the islands.

Following the brief talk by Dr. Chan, guests were treated to a live art demonstration by students from the Art & Art History Department. Dr. Charles Cohan and his class demonstrated the art of screen printing in the UHM Campus Center Ballroom.

Screen printing is the art of pressing ink through a prepared screen of fine material so as to create a picture or pattern. Guests interacted directly with students and created their own works of art to take home.

Dinner was prepared by Kissaten Café – a restaurant and catering company co-managed by UH alumni Neysa Taba and Chef Jon Ishimi.
