UH alumni are experts in a wide variety of fascinating topics. In one of the first installments of the new Holoholo Event Series, we invite you to delve into the history of beer brewing in Hawai‘i, featuring UH Mānoa alumni and Village Bottle Shop founders and owners Tim Golden and Daryn Ogino.

Join us for an immersive tasting experience including four 4 oz pours and a talk story session with Tim and Daryn on the rich and intriguing stories behind brewing in the state.

Space is limited. Registration is required. Please register online by February 24.

Parking tickets from the SALT lot can be validated at Village Bottle Shop.

About Tim Golden

Raised on the North Shore of O‘ahu, Tim is a Waialua High School graduate and received his BA in communications from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. He is a Certified Cicerone® experienced home brewer and general beer lover and picked up his love for beer while living and working in Los Angeles. After spending over a decade working in the entertainment business, he decided to move back home to Hawai‘i. He co-founded Village Bottle Shop & Tasting Room, Hawai‘i’s first dedicated craft beer bottle shop and bar in 2016. He is also a freelance beer writer, whose stories have been run in local and national publications.

About Daryn Ogino

Daryn was born and raised in Pālolo/Kaimukī and is a 1997 graduate of Kaimukī High School. He attended the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and graduated with a BBA in information technology management. Daryn started his food and beverage career at the age of 14 as a dishwasher, and over the years worked in various back and front of the house positions. He even paid his entire college tuition with tips he earned as a server and bartender in Waikīkī. In 2005, he left the food and beverage industry to start a career as a mortgage broker. Two years later he founded Smart Money, Inc. where he remains active as the president of the company. In 2012, he and his partners opened a modern pub called Pint and Jigger and it’s sister bar Harry’s Hardware Emporium in 2018. He also opened Village Bottleshop and Tasting Room with his partner Timothy Golden in August of 2016. With all three companies, the combined business revenue exceeds $6.5M annually and employs 50 plus employees. Daryn is married to Nicky Ogino, his wife of 8 years, and they have a son named Porter.

The Holoholo Series was created with the goal of changing the way alumni gather by celebrating the unique and powerful accomplishments of UH alumni. This series aims to uplift alumni, give their story a voice, and take guests off the beaten path to experience something new.
