The UH Mānoa School of Pacific and Asian Studies honored two of its distinguished alumni Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at College Hill. The evening program featured food, drink, speeches, music by Raiatea Helm, and Bollywood dances by students of Professor Sai Bhatawadekar.
The 2018 distinguished alumnus of the Asian Studies program is Dr. Shawn Eichman, a 1992 graduate of the master's program in Asian Studies at UHM. Since 2007, he has served as Curator of Asian Art at the Honolulu Museum.
This year's distinguished alumnus of the Center for Pacific Island Studies is Dr. Joakim "Jojo" Peter, who serves as Community Advocacy Manager for We Are Oceania, a collaborative project centralizing the support system for all Micronesian communities, families, and individuals in Hawai‘i.
