Nakasone and Pettit join UH Foundation Board

The University of Hawai‘i Foundation is happy to announce the appointment of Jackson Nakasone and Ted Pettit to the board of trustees. 

Jackson Nakasone

Jackson Nakasone is the CEO and principal of CBI, Inc.  His company has a franchise agreement with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank, an international commercial real estate group. After graduating from the University of Hawai‘i in 1968, Nakasone embarked on a career in the hospitality industry where he specialized in opening hotels and restaurants. An expert in the hospitality industry, Nakasone has served as an interim instructor at Kapi‘olani Community College, and consultant to companies including San Miguel Beer, Okada Trucking and City Bank. 

In 1978, Nakasone received his State of Hawai‘i real estate license and began his career in transactional activities in commercial real estate with the Hawaii Grubb & Ellis office. In 1982, Nakasone formed his own commercial real estate service company called CBI, Inc. To date his company has sold more than $300,000,000 in commercial real estate in Hawai‘i. 

Active in his community, Nakasone serves in leadership roles with a number of organizations including Lanakila Pacific, Palama Settlement and NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Organization. Past affiliations include serving as chair and member on the City and County of Honolulu Planning Commission and the Chamber of Commerce land use chair.

Ted Pettit

Ted Pettit is a director/shareholder at Case Lombardi & Pettit, a law corporation. Here he concentrates his practice in the areas of bankruptcy, business reorganization, collections and commercial litigation. Pettit earned his JD from the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in 1986. Pettit has authored numerous legal publications including Hawai‘i Collection and Bankruptcy Law Manual (4th ed., 2013) and Foreclosure & Related Remedies, Hawai‘i Chapter (2011, American Bar Association). 

Pettit earned his BA from the University of Missouri in 1972, and his PhD in medical physiology from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in 1980. Pettit has published over 35 scientific papers on the physiology of Hawai‘i’s seabirds. 

A recipient of numerous honors, Pettit was named 2016 Best Lawyer of the Year in Litigation—Bankruptcy and Lawyer of the Year in 2015 in the area of Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law by Best Lawyers in America. Best Lawyers in America has recognized Pettit as a Best Lawyer in Hawai‘i since 2006. He has also been recognized as a Hawai‘i Super Lawyer in Bankruptcy and Business litigation (2008-2015) by Super Lawyers amongst other accolades.

Ted Pettit was one of the founders and the first president of the Hawai‘i Bankruptcy Bar Association.
