Kuo represents Hawai‘i in 2017 Miss USA Competition

Miss Hawaii USA and recent Shidler graduate Julie Kuo (Kapi‘olani, AA ’15; Mānoa, BBA ’16) received national and international attention with her appearance in the 2017 Miss USA competition. Kuo is the first woman of Taiwanese descent to compete for the Miss USA title and was one of five contestants who were born in foreign countries but are now proud U.S. citizens.

Originally from Tainan, Taiwan, Kuo immigrated to Hawai‘i with her family at age ten. She was working as a server at Tango restaurant in Kaka‘ako when she was recruited to compete for Miss Hawaii USA. She was crowned Miss Hawaii USA 2017 in November of last year.

Kuo is a Roosevelt High School graduate and received her undergraduate degree in accounting from Shidler. She aspires to one day open a restaurant that specializes in her favorite Taiwanese dishes.
