Jonathan Omuro named a 2016 Portz Scholar

The National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) has named fall 2015 English honors alumnus Jonathan Omuro as one of four 2016 Portz Scholars.

The Portz Scholar competition recognizes the most outstanding honors undergraduate papers nationally. Omuro, who was mentored by Dr. Cynthia Franklin, will be presenting his paper, “Queering the Gay/Christian Intersection: An Exploration of Celibacy, Ex-gay, and the Christian Closet in Gay Christian Narratives” at the NCHC conference in Seattle this October.

Omuro, who hails from Mililani, represents the first Portz Scholar in university history. He enters a doctoral program in English at the University of Oregon, Eugene this fall.
