Leeward CC alumni enjoy A Gourmet Afternoon

Leeward Community College alumni visited their alma mater to participate in the Gourmet Afternoon event on Thursday, April 6, 2017, highlighting the culinary arts program and its restaurant, The Pearl.

Chef Don K. Maruyama, Jr. (Kapi‘olani, CC ’89), associate professor and program coordinator, welcomed alumni to the culinary arts facility and shared information about learning outcomes and the hands-on curriculum. Alumni toured the $6 million renovated facilities, including four teaching kitchens. The final stop on the tour was the ‘Ilima Award-winning fine dining restaurant and learning lab, The Pearl. Chancellor Manny Cabral graciously greeted guests during the fine dining experience, socializing and reminiscing with all the alumni. Everyone indulged in delectable delights created by chef instructor Chris Garnier and prepared by students in the Contemporary Cuisines class. Front-of-house service was provided by chef instructor Michael Scully and students of the Dining Room Operations class.

The alumni were thrilled to be back on campus for a gourmet afternoon, and they look forward to revisiting The Pearl and participating in future culinary arts and alumni events.
