In the Footsteps of Queen Kapi‘olani

On Saturday, October 22, alumni and friends of Kapi‘olani Community College gathered at the campus for “In the Footsteps of Queen Kapi‘olani,” an evening of music and storytelling highlighting the era of Hawaiian royalty when Queen Julia Kapi‘olani and King David Kalākaua were the reigning monarchs of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i.

Guests heard from Kapi‘olani alumna and scholar Colette Higgins on her experience tracing the footsteps of Queen Kapi‘olani when she traveled to England as a guest at Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887.

Along with the presentation, guests also enjoyed music from the Honolulu-based quartet Gypsy 808 along with ‘ono Hawaiian food.
