About the opportunity

Elemental is seeking several passionate self-starters to join its Equity & Access, Career Pathways team as an Intern Case Manager. In this role, you will support the internal and external efforts needed for implementing the EDICT summer internship programming becoming the bridge between our interns, host employers and programming teams. This is a dynamic team within the organization that will create and implement impactful programming for our over 100 interns. This position will report to the EDICT Consultant Manager and be responsible for approximately 20 student interns over the summer program period. The role will be tasked with Program administration, training facilitation, mentorship, intern advocacy & community building. We will lean on Case Managers to learn about what can be improved and how EDICT can be more impactful in launching climate careers!

Key Responsibilities Include:

Program Administration & Operations

  • Engage in weekly check-ins and follow ups as primary contact for interns
  • Facilitate student internship workshops, outreach and other related activities
  • Initiate low level problem solving and professional development/coaching, escalate to EDICT Manager as needed
  • Ensure intern attendance at weekly training/PD, follows up on students who were absent for a make up; ensures interns are completing weekly surveys & storytelling prompts
  • Collect and maintain internship participation data and develop reports

Intern Support & Mentorship

  • Provide career coaching to students including providing advisement on the climate sector and navigating the job search process
  • Provide support and resources to develop effective self-determination and self-advocacy to reach students’ professional and personal goals.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to provide efficient services to participants and meet program goals
  • Attend and participate in weekly team meetings with the EDICT team.

  • Familiarity with the climate/sustainability space and passion for fighting climate injustices/inequities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to navigate and resolve conflict
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Previous experience facilitating lessons or training
  • A dedication to inclusive excellence, and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, employers, and staff.

Standout skills:     

  • Previous experience coordinating or managing interns or post-secondary aged students
  • Strong knowledge of the unique barriers facing students from traditionally excluded/marginalized backgrounds in regard to career development.
  • Expertise in a climate sector or JEDI frameworks
  • Experience facilitating lessons or speaking virtually (via zoom)

Compensation

This is a contractor position with $7,500 total compensation. Internship coordinators can anticipate working between 20-25 hours per week.

Schedule

The work period is May 20 - August 30, 2024.

General onboarding & training will take place from May 20 -  June 7

The ten week EDICT internship window is June 10 - Aug 16. During this window Internship Coordinators must be available:
-Tuesdays (10) for team meetings (time tbd)
-Wednesdays (2-3) to support career conversations (11am-12pm PT)
-Fridays (10) to support professional development (11am-1pm PT)

Once the internship ends, we will request a final report and your participation in a share out about your experience.

Other Details

We will consider candidates located across the US, including Hawaii and Alaska. This role will be expected to be available remotely during their timezone’s working hours, as well as the required weekly meetings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Fridays.
