UH Hilo DKICP Reunion in Honolulu

On Saturday, September 10, 2016, Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy (DKICP) alumni celebrated their first annual alumni reunion in Honolulu in the Dave & Buster’s Sports Lounge. The occasion marked the first reunion for the college’s inaugural class of 2011, and they were joined by alumni from other DKICP graduating classes as well as friends and family of the DKICP ‘ohana.

Attendees gathered in the Sports Lounge of Dave & Buster's Honolulu and enjoyed an ‘ono selection of food followed by an ACPE credit-eligible continuing pharmacy education activity. Speaker Jared Redullia gave a presentation on Pharmacy Crime and Corresponding Liability designed to help pharmacists identify common diversion schemes, red flags and mitigation efforts. The University of Hawai‘i at Hilo Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.

A slideshow featuring photos from the college’s first five years featured notable moments in the college’s history including the very first white coat ceremony and student mixer events hosted by former Dean John Pezzuto. Attendees had the opportunity to share what they’ve been up to since graduation and a series of lively and sometimes funny questions were fielded by class reunion chair Cherie Chu who asked alumni things like:

  • What was the most useful class in pharmacy school?
  • If you were to be any drug what would you be and why?
  • Name your favorite beach on the Big Island
  • What advice would you give to incoming students?
  • What was your favorite study location in Hilo?
  • Describe one of your fondest memories of the college
  • What was your favorite restaurant or food in Hilo?
  • What did you like to do during a Hilo downpour?
  • State a new development in your life since graduating from pharmacy school (i.e.: job, marriage, kids, etc…)

Alumni were also asked to complete a short alumni update survey that will be used to inform DKICP leadership on graduate outcomes. DKICP Dean Carolyn Ma said a few words about the future of the college and shared her vision with alumni.
