Started in 1998, the annual A Taste of Hilo showcases more than 30 of the island’s tastemakers and beverage purveyors. Attendees enjoy sweet and savory delights created by chefs, restaurants and patisseries, and sample locally crafted beer, wine and sake.  The event is a great way to taste flavors and ingredients unique to the islands. Each year, a different local ingredient is featured.  Culinary students participate by hosting a food station.

Taste of Hilo is a fundraiser for the Hawai‘i Community College culinary program. Over the years, the Chamber has donated to Hawai'i CC for scholarships, facility improvements and program development.  Since the fund was created with UH Foundation in 1999, JCCIH has donated $126,516. This allows Hawai‘i CC to provide student scholarships, program improvements, college-wide benefits, and faculty and staff development opportunities.
