About Colette Higgins
Colette Higgins holds an MA in history (Pacific Islands) and a BA in history and anthropology, all from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. She also earned an AA in liberal arts from Kapi‘olani Community College. Her 2015–2016 sabbatical leave from Kapi‘olani Community College was to primarily trace and record the travel of Queen Kapiʻolani to London, England.
Higgins has taught Hawaiian history for nearly 20 years, served as department chair at Kapi‘olani Community College, and is a recipient of the Board of Regents’ Excellence in Teaching Award and Frances Davis Award for Excellence in undergraduate teaching. She has served as a board member of the Waikalua Loko Fishpond Preservation Society and has done extensive research on Queen Kapi‘olani. Currently, Higgins is the Dean of Academic Affairs, Division I at Windward Community College.

About The Ho‘opili Group
The Ho‘opili Group (Staying Connected) at Windward Community College was chartered in the fall of 2005 by a dozen or so retired faculty members. Soon after, membership was expanded to include not only faculty retirees but former (non-retired) faculty, former students, former staff and administration. Currently there are members in several states, Japan, Korea, Uruguay, and all over the Hawaiian Islands.
The primary goal is to form a continuing link to the College for those interested in “Staying Connected.” Free membership includes complimentary admission to the public shows at the Imaginarium and updates on campus events which may be of interest.
