On October 15, the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Nursing Alumni Association (UHMNAA) and Student Nurses Association (SNA) had their first joint Pau Hana networking event. This inaugural event, held at Holoholo Bar and Grill, had over 30 attendees including Dean Mary Boland, the current UHMNAA board and SNA officers, students representing different years of progression, and working nurses. Nursing alumni and guests represented a variety of community employers – Kaiser Permanente, Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women and Children, Ohana Health Plan,The Queen’s Medical Center, University of Hawai‘i Alumni Association, as well as the UHM School of Nursing. The event included a mixer and lots of time for students and working nurses to “talk story” and share stories with each other. A lucky number drawing closed the evening. With this success, UHMNAA and SNA look forward to growing the size and frequency of these joint events. For more information, go to http://www.nursing.hawaii.edu/uhmnaa.
