2015 Kane Fernandez Award

University of Hawaii Cheerleading Letterwinner Leanna Lui was awarded with the 2015 Kane Fernandez Community Service Award on Saturday, January 30 during halftime of the UH Men’s Basketball game versus CSULB at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Lui lettered in cheerleading at UH from 1994 to 1999 and is the 15th recipient of the award. She is the current 1st Vice President of the UH Letterwinners Club, serving in the club for the past 14 years as a board member, secretary and treasurer.  She is a court officer for the State of Hawai‘i Family Court in Kapolei and an independent consultant with Rodan & Fields Skincare. Lui received her bachelor’s degree in family resources and a master’s degree in social work from UH Mānoa.

Lui is very active in the community.  She is a judge for the Hawaii State Cheerleading Judges Association, a board member for the Life Foundation, and serves as the coordinator for her Neighborhood Security Watch. She was a participant in the Honolulu Police Department’s Citizens Academy, actively served with the former Venture Club of Honolulu, and participated in the Hawai‘i HIV/AIDS Community Planning Group. Lui’s continued hard work, dedication, and support to the University of Hawai‘i Athletics, the Letterwinners Club, and the community are worthy of recognition as the 2015 Kane Fernandez Community Service award winner.

The award is named for the late Kane Fernandez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fernandez Entertainment, who passed away in January 2001. He was one of the original members of the UH Letterwinners Club.
