To commemorate the Golden Anniversary of the Class of 1963, Golden Scholar honorees and guests attended UHAA’s Golden Scholars Reunion at Kennedy Theatre on Sunday, November 24, 2013. Guests enjoyed connecting with old classmates, forming new friendships and enjoying UH Manoa Kennedy Theatre’s dance concert, “Look Back: Move Forward.” One honoree flew in from Chicago and another from Las Vegas to celebrate their milestone. The event coincided with Kennedy Theatre’s 50th Anniversary of serving as the campus’ premier performing arts center.

Emcee for the event was UHAA President Patrick Oki (BBA ’92) with guest speaker and director of “Look Back: Move Forward”, UH Manoa Professor of Dance Betsy Fisher. UH Manoa Chancellor Tom Apple addressed this year’s honorees and guests with a riveting speech prior to the ceremony in which the honorees received their well-deserved golden medallions. This event was extra special for Patrick Oki and his family, as he presented his father, Leonard Oki (BS ’63), with a golden medallion.

Following the medallion ceremony, Chancellor Apple took to the Kennedy Theatre stage to share a few words with the entire audience prior to the afternoon’s performance. The honorees were asked to stand and were recognized and congratulated by the audience.

Honolulu Gourmet prepared a delicious lunch of mochiko chicken, furikake musubi, veggie salad and fruit salad for the Golden Scholar honorees and guests.
