About Chef Jon Pasion

Jonathan Pasion’s culinary career began early on, inspired by his Filipino parents and their love and respect for quality and tradition. The Maui native has fond memories of learning about delicious down-home cooking with his family in Pā‘ia. Without realizing it at the time, he was falling in love with food and the memories it has the power to create.

In 2010, after graduating from the University of Hawai‘i Maui College with a culinary arts degree, he then expanded his craft at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he sought opportunities to further develop his own creativity. There he obtained a bachelor’s degree in both Culinary Arts & Food Service Management and in Food and Beverage Management.

Pasion’s culinary repertoire flourished during his travels and work in the New England area. He has infused his style of cooking to the kinds of food he loves to eat by combining flavors of both his heritage and his travels. While in college in Providence, Rhode Island, he worked at the JW Marriott and the Newport Restaurant Group gaining both front-of-house and back-of-house experience, which furthered his growing enthusiasm for the culinary and hospitality industry.

Pasion continued his journey to Hilton Head Island and Charleston, South Carolina for a year before heading back home to Maui. On Maui, he jumpstarted his career and joined the Andaz Maui Resort as a cook and has now flourished as Sous Chef. Pasion brings his sweet “local-boy” attitude, unique skills and knowledge of modern local fare to the table at Ka‘ana Kitchen. At the Andaz, Jonathan showcases and shares his skills, passion for food and modern cooking techniques.
