Sacharski receives 2016 Kane Fernandez Award

University of Hawai‘i Letterwinner Club member MaryAnn Sacharski was awarded the 2016 Kane Fernandez Community Service Award on Saturday, February 11, 2017 during halftime of the UH Men’s Basketball game versus UC Irvine at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Sacharski is a former cheerleading coach at UH from 1978‒1982, and is the 16th recipient of the award.  She is a past president of the UH Letterwinners Club, serving in the club for the past 15 years as a board member. She helped coordinate two of the club’s most successful and financially significant fundraisers which raised almost $60,000. She was instrumental in beginning the negotiations for the Letterwinner Club’s partnership with UH Alumni Association, and was the first president to honor and present the white “H” stoles to graduating student athletes—a tradition which continues today.

Sacharski is the general manager of Oceanic Time Warner Media and sits on the board for the UH Alumni Association, ‘Ahahui Koa Ānuenue, Hawaii Bowl Foundation, Hawaii International Film Festival and Salvation Army Advisory Boards and Councils for Honolulu. She has worked with the Hula Bowl, Aloha Bowl, Sheraton Bowl and the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.

Sacharski’s continued commitment, dedication and support to UH Athletics, the Letterwinner’s Club and the community are worthy of recognition as the 2016 Kane Fernandez Community Service award winner.

The award is named for the late Kane Fernandez, chairman and chief executive officer of Fernandez Entertainment, who passed away in January 2001. He was one of the original members of the UH Letterwinners Club.
