Kristi Oda (’95) and Jarrod Oda (BA ’03)
Jarrod and Kristi met while on a church outreach to help build a rock wall at the new Center for Hawaiian Studies. Helpers made a long line down the stream like menehune, passing rocks by hand upstream down toward the new hale.
Jarrod stood out, wearing a cowboy hat and seemed to easily carry the rocks he passed to Kristi. She felt a “zing” but attributed it to the joy of serving at her alma mater with friends. It wasn't until years later, when they met again, that they fell in love and married. Like Kristi, Jarrod valued community outreach, Hawaiian culture, and the University of Hawai‘i education which provided a strong foundation for careers as an elementary school teacher and a pastor.
