A hui hou, Kathy Kawaguchi

The University of Hawai‘i ‘ohana bids a warm aloha to Katherine “Kathy” Kawaguchi, a UH Mānoa educational administration alumna and former president and vice president of the University of Hawai‘i College of Education Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Kawaguchi had a long and distinguished career in secondary and higher education in Hawai‘i. She taught as a high school science teacher in Indianapolis, Long Beach, and on O‘ahu (at Leilehua and Radford High Schools) and also served as a resource teacher at the district and state levels. Over the course of her many years with the Hawai‘i Department of Education, she served as an educational officer, vice-principal, state environmental education specialist and central district educational specialist as well as an assistant superintendent of the Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support.

Kawaguchi also had a very multi-faceted career, with previous work experience as an analyst/planner for Hawaiian Electric and as the project coordinator for the design and development of Mililani Mauka, Mililani Middle, Kapolei Middle and Kapolei High Schools. She most recently served as director of both the Educational Leadership Program and the Office of Naval Research projects at Chaminade University of Honolulu.
