Research Associate

Location: Kakaako, Honolulu, Hawaii

Duties and Responsibilities:  

*Supports the Compliance Director as the UH Cancer Center Human Subjects Compliance Coordinator and provides guidance in human subjects’ research compliance and protection issues to the UH Cancer Center faculty and staff.

*Responds to inquiries regarding research studies involving human subjects.

*Communicates with professionals of all levels at the UH Cancer Center, UH departments, hospitals, and community members. 

*Assists with planning and conducting compliance reviews. 

*Participates in the development of UH Cancer Center HIPAA related monitoring and creation of internal policies and procedures.

*Provides compliance related training and education to UH Cancer Center Program faculty and staff in collaboration with the Compliance Director. 

*Works closely with the Director Compliance to coordinate compliance activities, set priorities, and meet deadlines. 

*Provides support to the compliance office, including support involving committees and boards, and completes special projects and assignments as needed. 

*Prepares, supports, and conducts research related audits.

*Identifies and assesses areas of research compliance risks.

*Facilitates corrective and preventative action plans.

*Monitors automated reports and follows-up on compliance findings.

Education and Professional Work Experience:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Health Sciences, Humanities, or related field and one (1) year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for compliance, research; or equivalent education/training or experience.

 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of compliance or human subjects’ research as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.

Functional knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with the area of compliance or human subject research.

Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes, and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the workplace.

Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations. 

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. 

Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software. 

 
Equivalences:

Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

 
Desirable Qualifications:  

Master’s Degree in health-related field.

Experience applying regulations and principles governing human subjects’ research.

Experience with data reporting and/or research.
