Elemental has been innovating on the traditional investment model since 2009. We do more than simply write a check; we offer a full suite of hands-on services, support, coaching and introductions across the value stream to support growth and deployments. The organization has stood up a half-dozen programs to break down barriers to climate tech innovation through its robust portfolio, policy, equity & access, career pathways, investors/philanthropy and strategic partnerships.

About the role

Elemental is seeking a Portfolio Innovation Analyst. In this role, you will assist with the management of Elemental portfolio companies and cross-functional initiatives. We are looking for an individual who can provide thought-partnership on portfolio company and sector strategy, support recruitment and due diligence of startup applicants, manage deliverables and reporting, and co-design projects. 

This position will report to the Director of Innovation leading food systems, nature-based solutions, and carbon removal. This is a highly collaborative team within the organization that will ultimately be expected to help guide Elemental’s work across those three sectors and beyond.

Key Responsibilities Include: 

Portfolio Management

• Support overall growth of the portfolio companies
• Work with entrepreneurs and partners (e.g., host customers, community-based organizations, government entities, etc.) to design projects that are transformational to portfolio companies, as well as partners and communities
• Prepare for, schedule, and participate in calls with active and alumni companies
• Support various cross functional programmatic initiatives, content creation, and events
• Ensure company deliverables are met and project work is organized and kept on track
• Coordinate with the Elemental Portfolio and Finance teams on contracting documents and processing

Pipeline Management

• Track and synthesize market trends and technology developments across food & agriculture,nature-based and carbon sectors to identify opportunities
• Work with the Pipeline team to target and recruit top startups in each sector
• Support operationally on due diligence and portfolio selection process through applicant correspondence, coordination, and internal diligence documentation

Partnerships and Ecosystem Support

• Support the Director of Innovation in presenting pipeline and portfolio companies to our Navigator and investor network, and in managing investor relations
• Compile materials for Director of Innovation speaking engagements and publications

About You

You also have a specific interest in the startup community within food systems and/or nature-based solutions.

Desired skills:                              

• Experience working in and/or studying climate and sustainability
• Attention to detail with outstanding organizational and project management skills; a passion for teamwork that includes phenomenal follow-through and documentation
• Strong interpersonal skills; proven ability to work well in a nimble and flexible environment
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills; enjoy conducting research, analyzing data, and sharing findings

Standout skills:                                                                                     

• Interest and work experience within at least one of the following sectors: food & agriculture, nature-based solutions, carbon removal
• Experience working and building relationships with startups, venture capital, and/or accelerator programs
• Experience working on environmental justice issues with frontline communities and/or social equity organizations

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time "at-will" position working 40 hours per week. You will be asked to travel for work periodically.

The salary range for this role is $54,600 - $85,400, which is based on market data and the organization's compensation philosophy. Individual salary offers will depend and may vary with location, relevant education, knowledge, skills, and experience. We also offer comprehensive health & welfare benefits and top-of-the-market paid time off.

Other Details:

We will consider candidates located in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi or the Bay Area, California. Elemental has a hybrid working model, this role will be expected to be available remotely during HQ working hours, and able to commute to one of our HQ locations: Honolulu, Hawaiʻi or San Francisco, California.
