Manager, Client Services (Communications)

We currently have two positions available:

One will be responsible, on behalf of KS’ Finance Group, for effectively managing communications with a wide range of Hawai’i audiences on some or all of the following subject matter: commercial real estate management and development; investor relations and financial analysis, and large organization budget management and fiscal reporting.

One will be responsible, on behalf of KS’ Community Engagement & Resources Group, for effectively communicating with a broad range of Hawai’i audiences on some or all of the following subject matter: Community engagement, especially on matters relating to Native Hawaiian education and/or educational needs; ‘āina-based educational programming, and agricultural, natural and cultural resource management.

Position Overview:

Leads a team of communications professionals to develop, manage and implement comprehensive communications plans and services for KS clients, targeting internal and external audiences.  Provides senior level consultation to clients to meet strategic communications and issues management goals, while advancing and mitigating risks to the Kamehameha Schools brand.

Client Support:  Leads team of communications professionals to develop, manage and implement comprehensive communications plans and services for assigned client group(s), targeting internal and external audiences.  Skilled in the use of all appropriate communications tools and vehicles.  Provides senior level consultation to clients to meet strategic communications and issues management goals, while advancing and mitigating risks to the Kamehameha Schools brand.

Maintains relationships, and provides proactive and strategic counsel and support to assigned client group(s).

Leadership/Management:  Leads team while managing deliverables and deadlines.  Ability to influence others throughout the organization through setting of organizational standards and frameworks, shared goals, communication, information sharing and transparency.  An excellent negotiator who is able to cultivate and manage relationships with all team members.  Fosters and maintains a high performance environment based on teamwork, commitment, accountability, cooperation, collaboration and direct, timely feedback.  Able to present and facilitate executive/leadership discussions related to strategic analysis, challenges and issues that impede strategic progress.

Manages and coaches team members, and facilitates their work performance.  Identifies opportunities for professional development.  Works collaboratively with other Group leaders to promote successful cross-functional projects and campaigns.  Supervises the activities of employees from all Communications Group divisions/departments as they provide integrated services to clients.

Communications:  Works collaboratively with other Communications Group leaders and staff on integrated strategies, organization-wide campaigns, and risk mitigation plans for issues and crises, as needed.

Reporting & Budgeting: Develops team budget, objectives, outcomes, measures and targets, and leads team efforts to establish, compile and maintain data for quarterly and year-end group reporting.


Position Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or related field.
1 year manager or supervisor experience.
Demonstrated ability to plan, execute and manage large-scale, complex communication plans and long-term projects that deliver strategic outcomes to targeted audiences. Demonstrated ability to hold sensitive information in confidence and operate with discretion.
Strong customer service orientation, and models leadership behavior with colleagues and clients. Highly skilled at meeting budget requirements and delivery deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse personalities and interests toward identifying and meeting a common and beneficial objective.
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to review and edit the work of others and collaborate with them to produce the best product/service in a timely, effective manner.  Ability to transform complex and detailed information into straightforward and clear key messages that effectively communicate and accurately reflect KS’s brand, position and intent.
Skilled at developing rapport and trust with internal and external senior level contacts to resolve issues and negotiate difficult situations for KS and/or mutual benefit.
Extensive knowledge of the Hawai`i news media; excellent knowledge of a broad spectrum of new and traditional communications technologies.
Working knowledge of Hawai`i’s varied communities and the state and local government structure in the areas of business development and/or education.
Excellent listening skills and ability to understand the needs and drivers of others to enable opportunities to achieve shared outcomes.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and often at remote community sites.
Must be able to travel to offsite locations on island, neighboring islands, or out of state as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

5 years directly related work experience, including 3 years’ issues management and supervisory experience.
Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, history and/or language.
