The public is invited to the opening of the exhibit “Waipi‘o Valley: A Cultural Kipuka” on Thursday, September 21, at 4:30 p.m., at the Heritage Center of the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo North Hawai‘i Education and Research Center in Honoka‘a. Opening festivities will include entertainment by Darlene Ahuna.
The exhibit showcases the valley’s fragile ecosystem, the tradition of growing kalo (taro), early accounts and photographs of the valley, legends of Waipi‘o, and long-time families who have contributed to the area’s enduring heritage.
