More than 1,000 fans attended the UHAA Road Warriors tailgate before the USC football game on Sept. 1. Alumni and friends from near and far gathered at Exposition Park in Los Angeles to support the Warriors and show their UH pride as we battled powerhouse USC. VIEW

The University of Hawai‘i was among 20 public land-grant universities to be featured in the 2012 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C., and UHAA helped with event logistics. VIEW

Distinguished Alumni Awards

MAHALO to all who helped to make the 2012 Distinguished Alumni Awards dinner and silent auction on May 10 at the Sheraton Waikiki a great success. More than 650 UH alumni and friends attended the event, which raised more than $110K to help fund UH Alumni Association operations and programs. MORE

Life Member Event: Mele & Martinis

UHAA ‘Onipa‘a members enjoyed an evening of martinis and jazz as they learned about the Music & Entertainment Learning Experience (MELE) program at Honolulu Community College. Life members sat in on a recording session with special guest performers Aaron Salā, piano; Zanuck Lindsey, guitar; and Bruce Hamada, bass; and heard from Mele instructors and students. VIEW

BYU Football Tailgating

The UHAA golf cart made the rounds at Aloha Stadium before the last homegame of the season. Pre-game hopes were high for a bowl-qualifying victory over former WAC rival Brigham Young University, but it was not to be. The Warriors lost 41-20, coming up short this season 6-7. VIEW

The 2011 Homecoming Fair on Oct. 21 was a bright spot for lots of fun activities, in spite of rainy weather. UHAA Executive Director Alvin Katahara took a few dunks for a good cause – and we're not talking basketball! Members of the University of Hawai'i's Class of 1961 gathered to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their graduation on Oct. 21 during UH Mānoa Homecoming week. The newest "Golden Scholars" were inducted into a special circle of alumni during a ceremony at the Orvis Auditorium Courtyard on the UH Mānoa campus. VIEW

Tailgating at Aloha Stadium

The the official UHAA Golf Cart made its debut at UH Warriors football home games this season. The cart sporting a UHAA flag and an "H" flag can be easily spotted by tailgaters around Aloha Stadium. UHAA executive director Alvin Katahara and UH Mānoa Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw will be cruising the parking lot looking for proud alumni tailgaters. If you see them – give a shout out and let them know you're an alum. There may be something in it for you! VIEW

Distinguished Alumni Awards
May 12, 2011
UHAA honored its 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award honorees at a dinner and silent auction on May 12 at the Sheraton Waikiki. L. Tammy Duckworth BA '89, Gary Galiher JD '77, MEd '71 & Diane Ono JD '91, BA '73, AS '82, Richard Ha BBA '73, John T. Komeiji BEd '75 and Hing Leung Sham PhD '80 all received the award. The 2011 UH Founders Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award honored the late Isabella Aiona Abbott, PhD, BA '41. Her daughter, Annie Foerster, accepted the award on her behalf. Nearly 600 guests attended the event. Mahalo to our generous sponsors – more than $90K was raised for UHAA programming and scholarships!
